Caceres has been declared a World Heritage city by UNESCO on November 26th, 1986, in Paris, moment when its beauty and well-preserved monuments have been recognized. That is not the only recognition that Caceres has, it has also been declared as the “Third Historical Heritage from Europe”, awarded by the Council of Europe. Due to its important Historical City, Caceres also participates in touristic networks such as “World Heritage Cities in Spain”, the “Jewish Quarters” and the “Ruta de la Plata”.

Walking along these Old City Walls full of buildings with inestimable historical and architectural value makes you go back to ancient times. Its narrow streets are filled with Religious Buildings, Statelier Houses, Palaces and Arabic Houses, because Moorish and Christian once lived together in Caceres.

In spite of its architectural value, we can’t forget that Caceres is also a modern city in constant change, in order to adapt to the current society. Over the last years the numbers of events such as concerts, cinema festivals, theatres or congresses have increased. Caceres is now candidate to become the European Capital of Culture in 2016.
