Olivier Schulbaum (Platoniq)

Co-foundator of the Catalan organization of cultural producers and software developers Platoniq , a well-known International Group famous for being pioneer in the production and distribution of copyleft culture.

Platoniq is a collaborative group of the Contemporaneous Cultural Centre of Barcelona and, over the last years, it has obtained several awards for the project Burn Station, a copyleft music copier (2004), in the Festival Transitio of México DF and in the Festival of Digital Culture Transmediale in Berlin, apart from an honourable mention in the Unesco Digital Arts Awards.

Among his remarkable projects, there is also a Common Bank of Knowledge (2006), a platform for knowledge Exchange and mutual education that has taken place in Barcelona, Gerona, Seville, Lisbon, Linz, Cambridge, Berlin and Casablanca; the public streaming server: Open Server; the organization of temporary medias laboratories, Media Space Invaders (2003-2004); and the creation of the first copyleft license in the Spanish legal framework, “Aire Incondicional” (2003) (Unconditional Air).

From 2001 on, he carries out actions and projects in which social uses of Information and Communication Technologies and networking are applied to the development of communication, self-training and citizens’ organization. Together with his team, he is currently producing computer innovation applications and methodologies for a network of cultural centres between Asia and Europe in collaboration with Asia-Europe Foundation. On the other hand, he collaborates with Mondragon University for the creation of a laboratory to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship in Basque Country (Ideiazoka 2009).
