Nicolás Sguiglia

Was born in Rosario, Argentina, but has lived in Malaga and Seville for over 10 years. He graduated in Sociology and has a Masters in Human Rights and Development.

He has been a founding member of some of the most interesting and dynamic social movements in Andalusia and Spain in recent years, such as the project for independent communication Indymedia Estrecho; the network “Precarios en Movimiento” (Precarious People in Movement), which set up the initiative MayDay: 1º de Mayo de los Precarios; BorderCamps, which tackles subjects related with migratory movements; and the Offices of Social Rights (ODS), intervention mechanisms that fight for a biopolitical unionism.  His career, therefore, has arisen from the heart of the social and cultural movements of the last 10 years.

In the last year he has coordinated various processes of participative research and organised seminars with institutions as important as the Reina Sofía National Art Museum (“Governance Cultural e Instituciones de lo Común” (Cultural Governance and Ordinary Institutions) – Malaga 2009), the International University of Andalusia (“REU 08-¿Quién está detrás de la cultura?” (REU 08- Who is behind culture?) – Seville 2009) and Pablo de Olavide University in Seville (“Radicalizar la Democracia: Prácticas y lenguajes de los nuevos movimientos sociales” (Radicalise Democracy: Practices and languages of the new social movements) – Sevilla 2008).

He is currently an active member of the network of critical thinking, Universidad Nómada, the Social and Cultural Centre for Citizen Management, La Casa Invisible, in Malaga and the self-organisation experiment of cultural sector workers, Creadores Invisibles.
